An artist walks into a Modern Art gallery and may immediately see the abstract artist's message or meaning. While others often don't know what to say. If you happen to be in the company of an engineer, he or she might spend considerable effort in analyzing the painting-its color palette, composition, brush strokes-narrowing down to the final like or dislike. The artist keen eyes and gut feel quickly "tell" all to them. The engineer relies on reason, cause and effect, and data-that's they way they have been educated. On the surface they are very different-the artist and the engineer.

Once in a while the yin/yang blends into a cocktail of complementary emotion and reasoning and the artist-engineer emerges and the instinctive and analytical worlds collide. Living in this world is often a curse for the artist engineer, as the brain is complex and can be terribly logic when confronted with "like and dislike". Perfection often has to yield to listening to your gut just in order to get to the conclusion-high quality answers not needed. Look upon most any significant engineering achievement and one can see the designer artist at play. Engineering is blend of art and science-creativity meets the algorithm.

Myself having lived with this unique chemistry for many decades now, have a rewarding relationship; a mixture of both wisdom and mystery. I have used highly powerful analytical engines to create personally satisfying and industry feats of human engineering and eagerly returned to hold a single brush with color palette to create what the mind "sees".

Of recent note, one of my paintings has been selected as the feature art for the newly under-construction hotel in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards; more on this later. God bless. RAS.
