A Passion For Life

You too can find your life's passion.

passion for art

A writer, a musician, a poet, and artist-inspiration from the creative soul and the spirit to guide one's mind and hand in composition.

Always with paper and pencil in hand (and the calluses to show), my love of drawing led me to a paint-by-number kit, where suddenly things came to life. Elementary school found me as the Sr. Class Artist and News Paper Editor-where I loved to write (still do i.e. my blogs). This photo was taken at Nolan Catholic High School, where under the ever watchful eye of the Nuns of the Sisters of St. Mary Namur, us boys could join the girls in the Art Club; I was the Yearbook Artist.

My high school sweetheart's father was an electrical engineer and I was impressed by him as the first professional I'd been around. Ineligible for the military service draft and seeking direction in life, this led me to Texas Wesleyan College (now University) where I was a Fine Arts major with Business minor. Working part-time as an artist with McBride Advertising, then as an illustrator with Norman Harwell Associates, a new bride's father was also an engineer who strongly encouraged me to get serious about a college degree (if I was to marry his daughter you see)! These two professional engineers gave me the direction I was seeking.

At Oklahoma State University, I once again found my passion as the OSU Engineer Magazine's artist. Several university faculty and department art commissions help supplement two newly weds meager income.

Over my professional career I have continued to paint, understudy with noted artists, finding new inspirations with global travel and sojourns in the glorious Southwest. With one of the world's finest art museums-The Kimbell Art Museum-nearby, I find quality time at numerous exhibits and art workshops.

Of final note, I've capture a group of my favorite paintings and have a newly published book I'm so very pleased to share. My deep appreciation to film maker/writer Rob Smat (Rob@Smatfilms.com) in its' preparation and publishing efforts.

God Bless You All. Richard.
